Docents

Docents work with pre-scheduled school and adult tour groups and with walk-in visitors. All tours at the Carroll Mansion and the Phoenix Shot Tower are led by one of our Docents. Volunteers receive training and work with an experienced Docent before working on their own. On-going volunteer training programs are available. Requirements: A love of history, curiosity, and the ability to communicate with a variety of people plus reliability and promptness. Time commitment: Tours last 1 – 4 hours each.

Research Volunteers

Carroll Museums is actively researching various aspects of the history of the Phoenix Shot Tower, the Carroll Mansion, the Carroll Family and the various Immigrant families that inhabited the mansion. Research volunteers, depending on their background, will be asked to conduct research in libraries and archives on specific topics. Requirements: knowledge of historic research techniques, good written and oral communication skills and a desire to work as part of a research team. Time commitment: varies by project.

Office Volunteers

Office Volunteers are needed on a periodic basis to assist with mailings, special programs and other general office duties. Requirements: Good written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, reliability and promptness. Time commitment: approx. 5 hours/month

Event Volunteers

Event Volunteers are needed on a periodic basis to help prepare for and run special events that support the museums. Typical events include art/exhibit openings, cocktail parties and dinners, lectures, and music concerts. Tasks include mailings, marketing, vendor solicitation, ticket sales, and logistics. Requirements: Good written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills, reliability and promptness. Time commitment: approx. 5 to 10 hours/month.

On-call Volunteers

On-call Volunteers are supporters familiar with Carroll Museums, its sites, and programs. They provide Carroll Museums their contact information and are “on-call” to give extra help when needed for: special tours, office operations, or special events. Requirements: good interpersonal skills, reliability, and promptness.
